Greenwood FBC About
Our Beliefs

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that the entire Bible (all 66 books) is divinely inspired by God.

Read
  • “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • God is bigger and better and closer than we can imagine.
  • The Bible is God’s perfect guidebook for living.
  • Jesus is God showing Himself to us.
  • Through His Holy Spirit, God lives in and through us now.
  • Nothing in creation “just happened.” God made it all.
  • Grace is the only way to have a relationship with God.
  • Faith is the only way to grow in our relationship with God.
  • God has allowed evil to provide us with a choice, God can bring good even out of evil events and God promises victory over evil to those who choose Him.
  • Heaven and hell are real places. Death is a beginning, not the end.
  • The church is to serve people like Jesus served people.
  • Jesus is coming soon.
For a more complete statement of what we believe, including Bible verses, see the Baptist Faith and Message.

HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER OF GREENWOOD FBC

Read

The first membership requirement is being a Christian

HOW TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN
Admit you are a sinner and cannot save yourself.“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

Believe in God’s plan of forgiveness and the promise of eternal life through Jesus. “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

Confess Jesus as Lord and ask Him to save you. “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. ”Romans 10:9 “For whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13

The second membership requirement is Biblical baptism

Biblical baptism is being baptized by immersion after you become a Christian. “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19

The third membership requirement is covenanting with us.

Read
BAPTISM

You may join our church by being baptized after you become a Christian. If you are coming from a Non-Southern Baptist Church and have not been baptized by immersion, we would ask for the privilege of baptizing you before you became a church member.

LETTER
If you are already a Christian who has been baptized by immersion and are a member of another Southern Baptist Church you may simply request a transfer of membership from that church to First Baptist Church.

STATEMENT
If you have been a member of another Southern Baptist Church but no longer have active membership or your membership records are not available you may join First Baptist Church upon your statement that you are a Christian and have been baptized by immersion in another Southern Baptist Church. We will also welcome you as a member upon your statement that you are a Christian who has been baptized by immersion in a church of another denomination whose beliefs about baptism and salvation are like those of First Baptist Church.
